My husband is a super-keen golfer and inevitably this tends to result in the occasional ‘golfing weekend’ in addition to the hours spent on the local golf course. Chatting with some of the other wives at his golf club, I realised I wasn’t the only one to feel left out of these ‘men only’ breaks - and so we decided that the answer should be ‘families come too’!
There wasn’t much point booking a family weekend away at a stuffy hotel so we chose Haven Holidays’ Craig Tara on the Ayrshire coast.
It has everything – a fabulous 9-hole golf course with gorgeous views across to the Isle of Arran, mini-golf, crazy golf and, when you’ve had enough of golf there’s a huge heated indoor leisure pool with endless slides and flumes, go-karts, play areas and three separate full-on entertainment venues with daytime and evening entertainment.
There’s something to please everyone on the Park and loads to do locally as well – including the renowned Royal Troon Golf Course within easy reach.
We opted for half board accommodation but you can also book self-catering holiday homes or ‘Diner’s Choice’ which is a combination of the two - self-catering accommodation with a full English breakfast and a choice of three course evening menus served in the restaurant.
At first there were only 3 or 4 families going but word spread and soon we had well over a dozen families interested - and suddenly I was organising a group booking.
Haven Groups were really helpful, sorting out all the admin, providing loads of information and booking the children onto the Pro Golf Coaching course. And we got a group discount which was a real bonus!
The weekend was a huge success with everyone. The kids really enjoyed the golf coaching – in fact several of the older children have asked when they can join the local golf club. And keeping the kids amused in the pool whilst their dads played golf was not a problem - for once we ALL had a good weekend break.
